The HETS Connection
Volume : 7 - Issue : 2 - MAY 2011

Message from the Chairman of the Board

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this edition of HETS Newsletter. This issue demonstrates the progress made by our organization toward its principal goal of focusing its activities around issues of access, retention, and assessment.

We are proud of the Second edition of our Online Journal (http://hets.org/journal/). I urge you to read the work presented by your colleagues.

HETS continue its efforts to provide services, educational tools and opportunities based on the latest trends.  The Second HETS Best Practices Showcase, Celebrating Innovation in Access, Retention, Assessment, and STEM Education to Promote Hispanic Student Success in Higher Education, will take place February 16-17, 2012 at San Juan, PR. A Call for Proposals has been made to our member institutions. To learn more about how to submit proposals for consideration, or to learn more about the Showcase please click here :

In addition, the HETS Consortium has conducted online development workshops. For the first time, these workshops give an opportunity for international faculty to take advantage of completing online the HETS Basic Certification in Integration of New Technologies in Higher Education. Also, I want to share with you the different collaborative efforts that our organization has accomplished with our Major Corporate Partners.  These collaborations provide more services and educational tools for faculty members, as well as for key administrators and departments in the Information Technology area.

This issue of the HETS Connection includes further details on these and other initiatives. The HETS Connection gives our members a chance to learn more of the accomplishments of our members and partners and, thus, to enhance opportunities for Hispanics in higher education. I invite you to read on, and take note of our progress. It is our hope that our activities to date will encourage you to engage in even greater collaboration and participation. After all, our consortium is only as good as the contributions of our members. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact the HETS office.

Warm regards,

Eduardo Marti, PhD
Chairman of the HETS Board of Directors
