The HISPANIC EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY SERVICES, formerly known as the Hispanic Educational Telecommunications System, is the first bilingual consortium dedicated to serving the higher education needs of the fast-growing Hispanic communities.
Starting in 1993 as a group of institutions interested in sharing courses at a distance, the HETS Consortium has evolved from the use of telecommunications into the asynchronous modes of anywhere-anytime learning, and the use of technology to reach greater collaboration among and within educational institutions.
"Promoting the innovative use of technology and collaborating to effectively implement technologies that enhance student and educational success in times of global competitiveness" is precisely what brings HETS to the educational scenario. Throughout its history, HETS has fostered collaboration as a strategy to pave the way for progress of Higher Education and, overall, for the success of the learner, Higher Educationīs main customer and benefiter. But global changes in education and economy make it more imperative each day to creatively generate synergies that help achieve both individual and common goals. Through HETS, the art of synergy meets the savvy implementation of technology innovations for the improvement of education.
HETS provides its members with the opportunity to participate in collaborative projects, network with a culturally diverse community; benefit from services specifically tailored for students, faculty members, academic leaders, and professionals; access useful online educational resources; participate in special interest workshops and training sessions; and obtain the input from experts in technology and online education.
In addition to its many opportunities for professional development, networking, and knowledge building, HETS encourages members to:
-
Develop, and implement the right technology approach;
-
Engage in strategic alliances with other member institutions and corporations;
- Pursue funding opportunities for the acquisition of new technologies and the development of technology-related projects;
- Showcase their lastest accomplishments and share innovative practices with other colleagues; and
-
Participate in peer learning experiences
